Something about diving

Diving is the greatest thing to do in the world.

Thanks to Jacques (Yves) Cousteau for inventing the SCUBA unit.

Once I stepped on the way for a diving trip, I forget about everything. Seriously, everything.

I would spend all my money on diving. The only possession I have is my diving gears. Ha!

I believe I'm the poorest diver in Singapore, JB, and some say Batam.. hahaha... But it doesn't matter, as long as I get to dive :p

We’re not supposed to touch marine creatures when we dive, most divers would say, especially ang moh...
Don’t tell anyone (duh.. this IS the internet) but I like to touch them.
For the record, I’m not disturbing them, I just want to be friendly with them, like we shake hands when we meet people :p hahaha…

Touching a cuttlefish when she’s trying to lay eggs IS disturbing. I don’t do that, but I’ve seen divers did just that.
Gently stroke a turtle if it comes near to you voluntarily IS NOT disturbing. Who can resist not touching them if they come near? You? C’mon..Don’t be a hypocrite.

It is exactly this kind of friendly interactions that would cause more people to want to protect the animals. Some divers argued that touching fish or whatever will “stress them out”… Yah? Touching them will stress them out? Then what about the bubbles they emitted? That’s a lot of noise if you ask me. That should “stress them out” even more. The moment a diver plunged into the sea, there’s interaction, millions of planktons are being disturbed, being “stressed out”.. Then what?

Alright, enough about those stuff.

There is something funny about female divers. I’ve observed on many occasions. When there are different groups of divers, female divers in particular, you are bound to feel the hostility in the air. Like female cats met rivals =p

I hardly met friendly female divers… why? Well.. Diving used to be a man’s game. Perhaps they feel being a diver makes them(girls) special. Having more female divers mean they are less special, maybe? Should be.

Am I a friendly diver myself? It depends =p If you are friendly then I will be friendly too. If you have a face which hardly smiles, why the hell should I be friendly with you?

Anyway, taking the diving course is the best decision I’ve ever made. I almost gave it up due to fear. I’m glad I didn’t. I hope I’ll be able to enjoy this sport for many many many years to come, until I’m too old to move about anymore. And I hope the marine creatures will thrive strongly despite human’s destructing activities that go on all around the world…

p.s. Last Saturday I went out for dinner with my family. The restaurant manager suggested that we order a fish called 青衣, which is a Napolean Wrasse, an endangered species. Upon hearing that I agitatedly yelled “NO! CANNOT EAT青衣! AS A PROTECT WILDLIFE ADVOCATOR CANNOT EAT青衣!” …….

The manager went silence. Then I realized I was being over-reacting… He must have thought, “Siao cha boh..”. hahaha…. I regretted acting in that way. I should have just declined to order the fish without yelling like that =p hehe.. anyway, doesn’t’ matter now.

Can I not lie?

I hate to lie.

Can we live in this world without lying? If everyone's nose is to be elongated like Pinnocchio when one lies, then the "Shortest Nose Award" will go to elephants =p

I hate to keep secrets too (so don't tell me your secrets). A HongKong author 倪匡(卫斯理)once said, "If you youself cannot refrain from telling your secret to a 3rd party, how do you expect that person to keep that secret?" So the best way to keep a secret is of course, not telling anyone, which, is a very difficult to do, especially for women, which, including myself :p That's why I don't like to know about people's secrets.

..........

Well... ... I'm lying.
Haha.. I do like to know about people's secrets, I just don't like to hear "...and don't tell anyone."
I must admit, the "gossip gene" does inevitably exist in my blood as a woman. I said I hate to lie, doesn't mean that I don't lie ;) How can a common mortal like me escape from this great natural law? Humans are born to lie, born to be manipulative afterall.

The thing is, lying requires talent. You have to be creative, you have to react fast, in order to think of a 2nd lie to cover the 1st, a 3rd to cover the 2nd, on and on. It's a neverending story. This is simply not one of my talents :p so I hate to lie.

p.s. to my friends out there, I will still keep your secrets provided you specifically asked me "don't tell anyone". =p Even though I don't really like to keep secrets...... but... anyway, don't worry, Your secret's safe with me ;)

Patriotic? or Idiotic?

I'm a Malaysian.

I'm working in Singapore. Just like millions of others with the same fate.

I love my country. I was a strong "Mahathir-supporter". But it doesn't mean that I'd agree to whatever our former Prime Minister said.

Singapore is a rational country. I like working here. I like the technology, the exposure, blah blah blah...

I hate it when Msia quarrels with Spore. Just simply hate it. I hope the ministers can just keep their mouths shut.

There are so many things Msians would complain about Spore, and Sporeans about Msia. Sometimes true sometimes not. Msians said Sporeans are kiasu, Sporeans said Msia is unsafe. Whatever it is, causeway still jammed with cars everyday.

Only Sporeans kiasu? To tell you the truth, I'm a super kiasu Malaysian.

Sporean kiasu and Malaysian not? Wrong. You can see M'sians' "kiasu culture" on the roads everywhere. 3 lanes became 5 lanes is a norm. (Somebody's throwing stones at me......)

I love my country. But I find it idiotic to argue whether Sporeans are more kiasu than Msians, or better, than the rest of the world.

Will I be classified as "more patriotic" if I constantly complain about Spore? If I constantly saying how much better Msia is? To some, yes.

Patriotic? or idiotic?

Maybe someone is kicking my ass for not constantly praising Msia.

Someone I know who's also working in Spore would relentlessly express how much he loves Msia and that he doesn't really like Spore. And so his superior jokingly suggested to him that they should have a branch in JB and let him in charge there, with the same pay, since he loves Msia so much. But his immediate answer was "No no no, I don't want, I like Singapore."...... patriotic huh?

Whatever it is, I do love Malaysia. If I have to criticise Malaysia so that we would progress more, I would do so. I love Malaysia.

Wouldn't it be nice if Spore and Msia won't quarrel anymore?
Wouldn't it be nice if we don't complain about each other anymore?

May that day come soon. :)
