Singapore's local stamps

This is one of the local stamp designs of Singapore Post (SP). I don't know whether SP prints different designs at the same time or different designs after a period of time. I have been buying this design for soooo... long... until I damn "sien" looking at it.

Yesterday I went to buy stamps again and to my surprise, there's a new design and they are very very pretty!

What's more, it's got special message stickers on the back! It is sooo adorable... But as I don't write snail mails anymore, these are for company usage... I don't have the chance to use these stickers. So I just paste them on a piece of paper, just for fun, and then throw it away... hahaha...

No, it's not like that.

There are some people in our society, who would just deny every other person’s opinion. Whatever opinion you express, he would go, “No, it’s not like that.”, “I’ve done that, so I know.”, “My friend who’s done that he knows.”, “No, my friend said is not like that.”… blah blah blah…

I once saw my mum talking to another auntie. My mum expressed her opinion, that auntie went, “No no no… I tell you, it’s not like that…” blah blah blah… BUT what she said, was EXACTLY the same with my mum’s. She just never bothers to listen to what people are saying, because she thinks she doesn’t have to listen, why? Because she will always be the one who’s right. Because only the things she said are right.

Every one of us surely, will not think our own opinion is wrong. That’s totally normal. The thing is, a lot of issues in this world are NOT simply EITHER black OR white, right OR wrong. There will always be arguable points. There’s no need to constantly deny other people’s opinion and say, “No, it’s not like that.” or “I’ve done it I know better.”

Besides, do you have to really “done it” to know everything? NO. You may have done something yet you still do not understand the theory behind it. You may have experienced something yet you do not grasp the whole picture of it.

Someone I know always start a conversation with a “NO” then blah blah blah non-stop about what he thinks, what he’s gone through, what his friends have gone through. It’s like in the whole world, ONLY he and his friends have gone through everything, only they know everything. It’s totally annoying… a typical Mr-Know-It-All.

For example:

Him : ****(a kind of supplement) is very good for us you know. My friend told me.

Me : Yeah, I know. Everybody knows that.

Him : No, my friend who works in medical field told me. They know very well. It’s very good for your digestion you know.

Me : Yes, I know. Everybody knows that. That’s a common knowledge.

Him : My friend, he works in medical field, he said ***blahblahblah*** ………And he kept on going about what his friend who works in medical field told him.

In fact, what we were talking about is an extremely common supplement where everyone knows about its benefits. And he had to emphasize on his “friend who works in medical field” told him. How ignorant is that? I don’t think we have to have a “friend who works in medical field” to know such simple fact… Tak boleh tahan... unbearably ignorant...

Unquenchable thirst

Unbelievable as it is, David Attenborough's book - Life On Air (Memoir of A Broadcaster) was the first English book I managed to finish reading without feeling bored and without giving it up halfway through (I have numerous English books that I never finished reading). Then it was J.K.Rowling's marvellous Harry Potter. I really have to thank these 2 people. For after reading these books, I have developed an unquenchable thirst for vocabs, and improvements. I look up dictionary very frequently nowadays. Well, that's with an electronic dictionary... I have to thank myself for purchasing this e.dictionary.. haha... I can't imagine the time I would have to spend on if I were to look up the words in book type dictionary... A caucasian friend commented that my English has improved a lot ever since I read Harry Potter. I was so delighted upon hearing that. hah... It meant a lot to me.

I still have loads to learn. When I read other people's blog, their "chim" English makes me feel that my English is kindergarten standard... Reading those blogs sometimes make me go "What the heck is he/she trying to say???"... I could understand these blogs no more than legal documents…

Anyway, having a blog like this, will certainly help in improving my English. Hence, doesn’t matter if my English is only kindergarten standard to some people. Hey, I’m learning and improving everyday~ That’s what matters most.

Malaysia Among Top 3

[Quote from The Star]
VALLETTA: Malaysia is among the top three countries in the 53-member Commonwealth with the most number of tourist arrivals, according to World Tourism Organisation figures.

Only Britain and Canada received more tourists than Malaysia, which pipped countries like South Africa (fourth), Singapore (fifth) and Australia (sixth).
[Unquote]

WOW...... Malaysia did it again. Top 3, even if that only includes members of the Commonwealth, which doesn't include China, Vietnam, etc... but still it's quite unbelievable. I would love to ask these tourists what is it about Malaysia that attracts them here. I would have thought being a Muslim country, people would avoid us like plague... in case there are terrorists here, or there might be bombing here, that sort of thing. But I'm glad to know this is not the case.

Night Safari

Went to Night Safari with a friend last Friday. It was quite interesting during this first visit, but will certainly think twice if anyone asks me to go there again.

The ambience was very interesting, felt like I was in Jurassic Park, quite exciting. However, there weren't a lot of animals to see.

I had no idea that visitors are not allowed to use flash to take photos of the animals. I was too excited and at the first 2 exhibits I didn't see the signs... So I snapped and snapped...with flash on.. and I think there were people looking at me.. but I was too excited to care why they were looking at me. Ehm, so... I apologise here.. sorry... It was when I noticed that none of the rest of visitors were using flash... then it made me wondered...

I took these photos with flash... The otters were sooo noisy, in a cute way(to me it's cute). But actually they were fighting...

This is the tram route which we were not supposed to cross. There were water and fog.. I don't know was that man made or was it due to the rain. But it created a kind of eerie and mystical feeling which I thought was marvellous.

I stood there for a photo, as we didn't use flash, it rendered only my silhouette. I kind of like this photo.

These are the better photos that I managed to capture... The leopard and hyena were resting directly under the dim light, that's what made these photos possible with my not-pro-nor-DSLR digital camera.

I had the impression that hyenas are not nocturnal animals. Nocturnal animals are the main attraction of Night Safari. So I flipped through my book, it turned out that I was not entirely correct. Hyenas scavenge during the day and hunt at night.

I like this photo. It makes me feel like I'm in the middle of a rain forest.

Here, it allows me to imagine that I am looking over Lake Tanganyika, which is situated between Tanzania and Zaire, a place I'd love to go if given a chance.

Baby from the soil

I wrote the post about the magic bean till after midnight...and I had a dream related to it.

I was at my house's gardening area, looking at the plants.

Suddenly I saw movements, under the soil.

There it was, a foot. A baby's foot.

A baby's foot stuck out from the soil. I wasn't startled.

Then the images changed. It was another day.

I was squating at the same spot, looking over the plants, where the baby's foot stuck out.

The soil loosen, caused by the movement underneath. Something appeared, moving.

It was... a baby.

Yes, a baby. A baby which had grown from a plant's root, apparrently.

I held the baby in my arms.

Images changed again. It was, again, another day.

The baby was no longer a baby. He had grown up. About 7 years old. I had been taking care of him. He's my son.

And my dream ended.

This is really what happened in my dream. No lies.

Magic Bean

I was given a "Magic Bean" which is selling in a can. It can be bought at many shopping malls. When this bean begins to grow, when it pops out of the soil, we'll be able to see the words engraved on the bean. That was the first time I ever saw this bean. I was surprised to see that the bean was so big, about 3cm long. It looked similar to "taugeh" just that it's the super larger version of taugeh. haha...

I didn't expect it to survive for a long time.

I wasn't at home when the bean popped out. My brother took its photo which showed the words on the bean but I've deleted them ... so I can't show it here.

Nevertheless, I kept taking its photo afterwards, and here is the "journal".

(5/11/05)Its leaves are quite big. It was yellowish at this stage, I thought it's going to die soon. Picture on the right shows the flower buds.

(Left : 12/11/05 night) (right : 13/11/05 noon) The flowers sometimes looked pinkish, sometimes purplish. Maybe the colour difference was due to different stages of maturity. When the flowers bloomed however, it turned white. Check out the 2 little ants on the white petal (photo on the left - remember to click the enlarge button to see it in full size)

This photo was taken under bright sunlit condition. Lots of ants on it, the nectar must be really sweet.

(25/11/05) I returned home about 2 weeks after I took the photos of the flowers, the bean is already this big... amazing.

I shall see what happens next to this bean and post the updates here again.

Buffet at Chiang Mai Zoo

I read a news last week, the Thai government is planning to have "exotic meat buffet" at their zoo in Chiang Mai.

THAT IS TOTALLY O.U.T.R.A.G.E.O.U.S!!!!!!!!

In their exotic meat "menu" includes the meat of giraffes, tigers, rhinoceros, etc etc... What the hell is going in their brains???? Or are they brainless??? Having exotic meat in the zoo?!! Just like what my manager has said, that's like asking people to go to the zoo, have them admire at the animals and have them wonder at the same time, "Oh, these tigers are so pretty, I wonder what they taste like?"

Conservation groups protested to such outrageous decision. The officials, argued that they will not import any endangered species to become part of the buffet menu. But that's not the point!! They should not import ANY exotic animals to become food at all! Having exotic meat buffet will "encourage" people to want to eat exotic meat. When there're demands, there'll supplies. Then all these "not endangered species" WILL become endangered.

Gosh... human... human beings are the most horrible creature that evolution has created...

Top of the world??

Yesterday I had a dream. I was climbing a rope ladder with dozens of others. It was the kind of ladder which helicopters use. I couldn't see where I was, but I know it was a very high place. I could only climb on one side of the rope, the right side. The right side was where people were climbing up, one followed by another, closely. And people were climbing down on the left side of the rope. Kind of scary.

When I reached the top most part of the ladder, I glanced over it, and Oh My GOD.... I was like at the top of the world! Inches above my head were all clouds, nothing but clouds. And I looked over the ladder, far far below, were also clouds... It was so scary.. I have acrophobia...

I don't understand why I had this dream. I was reading about deep sea yesterday night. Why didn't I dream of the bottom of the sea but the top of the world?

It felt like I have "travelled" from the deep sea all the way to the top of the world yesterday night. haha...

Passions In My Life

Some stupid stuff that I wrote..

Passions In My Life

Diving is my life,
Without diving I will die,
Spent some money learnt to dive,
Was the best thing in my life.

Last Sunday was an incredible day,
Wakeboarding till the sun fade,
Watersport is awesome I say,
Staying fit should always be the way.

Such 2 passions, expense is high,
But no greater enjoyment can I find,
Though I've saved not a single dime,
A trip to either I can't deny.

Going diving displeased my mum,
A waste of money deemed by some,
I'm just looking for some fun,
Why is all the pointless fuss,
Both these interests I'll never give up.
This is my life. I do what I like.

I love wakeboarding~

Went wakeboarding.. to be exact, cable-ski wakeboarding, on Sunday. And that's it~ I have got another expensive hobby.... Gosh........

I've enjoyed it TREMENDOUSLY. It was awesome!

We tried kneeboard first and that was pretty easy. Then we tried the wakeboard. It was kind of difficult to actually being able to stand on it. I've "taken in" so much water through my nostril... Kept falling from the board immediately when the cable pulled, face down, bottom down, side way, all sorts of "style"... haha.... I was frustrated that I couldn't stand up. I knew I can so I kept on trying and trying, until every other girls had given up. And I managed to stand up at the end of the day! Amazing feeling! Whoaho~

I couldn't get enough of it so I did it again and again. I was so glad that I am now a lot more fit than I used to be. Had to swim a lot to reach back to shore. I would definitely have given it up very soon had I not been exercising. It feels so good to be fit. Though I had really overdoing it, this wakeboarding thing... Now my whole body is aching. My arms especially.. They hurt like hell... I have never experienced such terrible soreness in my muscles.. I walk like an ape cos I can't straighten my arms... hahahahahahaa.......

By the way, check this out www.cable-ski.com, great service, friendly people, great fun!!

I LOVE WAKEBOARDING~~~~~~~~
*Oh my big fat arm... *_*

The girls, the girls.

传宗接代?

Mr Turtle pleasantly made the introduction to Nemo's father, Marlin, "Jellyman, Offspring. Offspring, Jellyman."

Fortunately, we homo sapiens are not as fertile as the turtles. Mr Turtle has so many children that he simply named them all "Offspring". hahahahaha... If we are as fertile as the turtles, the Earth would be long over populated. Well, the Earth IS already over populated if you ask me.

Traditional Chinese thinking, is that we must have kids. And everyone hopes for at least one baby boy, as to "传宗接代". What's up with this 传宗接代 anyway? So what if the world has another baby who carries a particular surname? Be it, Chan, Ng, Lee, Kwek, whatever... It won't cause the Earth to become a better place, won't cause the Earth to become larger so it can accomodate more human beings BUT an additional mouth to consume the already limited food and water on Earth.

So why are we having more babies? I don't know. But people are getting old, aging of population is a problem...HOWEVER, I don't think people want to have babies is because of "aging of population", gotta have more babies to support the old people in future... It's just simply for 传宗接代. BUT I still don't understand what's so important about that.

We have infinite people in every corner of the world doing this generally deemed "noble procreation job". I seriously think, that we should give other species a chance to procreate more than what they are now. Species other than human beings are mostly at the brink of extinction. So why are we having more and more babies than what the Earth could eventually tolerate? and driving more and more species into extinction?

We are suffocating the Earth, we really are. That's why, at this moment, I think I should not have kids when I'm married.

That is some noble excuse for not wanting babies, huh? hahahaha...

Actually, I had countless dreams of me being pregnant and giving birth, ever since I was 16 years old. I was always very happy when I had those dreams, it felt so real. However, 12 years had passed. I have long became a "procreation-capable-female-homo sapien" and I don't wish to have babies now. I don't deny the possibility of me wanting babies when I have found that special someone. Who knows? But I just don't see what's so important about having babies. I just don't.

Muscular arms

One day morning, I suddenly realised something.

I have a thing for muscular arms (of men, of course). Muscular arms are just ssssoooo sexy, and it turns me on right away. Just like Issa of Da Pump. There's no picture of his sexy arms here but anyway, he's sexy.

Issa wore a sleeveless shirt and sang the very nice "IF" in one of their concerts. He looked absolutely gorgeous, so simple, yet so attractive. Though at times, his long and muscular arms made him looked like an ape... ahhahahahah... and then I wondered, why do I fancy a guy whose arms look like apes'?

Then, I suddenly understand why. Simple! Because, I like apes~~! Ha! As simple as that. Basically I like all primates/apes/monkeys... So that's why. hahahahahaha....

Mazda 3

Sometimes when I have to run some errant at work I have to drive my boss's car, either a Toyota or a Mazda 3.

I love to drive the Mazda 3 of course. It is such a ffffine carrr.... hahaha..

But I always laugh to myself when I drive the Mazda 3. Bcos I'm short, other drivers from behind will think that this Mazda in front is driven by nobody... "An unmanned vehicle on the road!" hahahahaha... Every time I think about this I will laugh...

Anyway, I continued to enjoy driving this fine baby, feeling the breeze (from the aircond of cos) on my face, imagining this smooth, elegant vehicle is MINE.

Materialistic? Well, who doesn't like cars? If my father is loaded I would want a RX8, or a Lotus, or a Porche even. hahaha... Yeah right... dream on....

Queue at an empty counter

Went to McD yesterday. I was second in the queue. One of the staffs, an auntie, came to take my order using a PDA. After taking my order she said to me, "Go to the counter please." But there was no cashier at the counter she gestured to me...

So I stood there, remained silence. I didn't want to move since there was NO cashier there. She then repeated what she said and pushed me towards that counter... I had no choice.. She pushed me... Can't she see that there's no cashier there??

So I stood in front of the empty counter... dumbfounded...
Then the customer at the counter I was queuing left. So I moved back to that counter… What a waste of time having me to go to the empty counter… funny woman.

Zoo~

Went to Singapore Zoo with 2 friends today. Some of the interesting stuffs :

One of my favourite, Meerkats. They are just so adorable and looks so cuddly. Every time I see them, either in the zoo or on tv, I just can't help but marvel at their cuteness.

Disgusting Madagascan hissing cockroaches. And one of their ugly heads... haha....

Another cuddly animal, ring-tailed lemur. It is so prettttyyyyy.... I hope one day I'd get the chance to see them in their real home, Madagascar.
A beautiful butterfly.

Mushrooms. Photo on the left was shot without flash. Aren't they beautiful?

Parrots with fiery red feathers.
This is one thing I wish to have... Iguana. I had a small one but was stolen...

This baboon is really clever. My friend just kiddingly moved her hand, gesturing to this baboon, and he began to roll on the floor, knowing fully well that he will be rewarded with bananas my friend bought. He did it so many times. It was totally hilarious....

There's another female baboon with a baby did some "stunts" in order to get bananas too. But she did sommersaults instead of rolling on the floor, with the baby hanging on her belly. I didn't manage to get a photo of her.

I just can't look enough at the sloth... It has grown bigger (if it's the same one I saw one year ago). If only I can hold them...

What a lovely orang-utan baby~~~~ I want to hold it~~~~

This penguin was very interested in us the human, as much as we were interested in them. Hahaha....
