Sick of Racial Bickerings

I am so God damn sick of all the racial bickerings.

Yesterday in one of the newspaper, it talked about the "hot" racial issue in Malaysia now. I can't remember exactly what.. pardon me. Getting old... my memory is like.. working for only a 12 hours' range only.

Today there was another. It's sadder than the article yesterday.

The recent matter, if not mistaken, started with a Hindu temple (of 150yrs old!) that was going to be relocated. And then some of the Malay residents in that area (of the new location) got upset and went protested about it. For Christ's sake! Or should I say for Allah's sake!!! There are endless Muslim mosques in Malaysia. Why is this ONE Hindu temple moving thing even an issue??! It's not even a new temple! GGOOOODDDD.

They then took a severed cow's head (cows are sacred to Hindus) and stomped on it. THAT to me, is extremely insulting. After that, there were supposed to be a meeting between leaders of the Indian society and government officials or something like that. The protesters made sure there was no talk whatsoever.

Quote from Straits Times :
"They shouted, booed and hurled obscenities, jumped on chairs or took them away from any Indian who wanted to sit down. They harassed middle-aged women by pulling at their scarves and made threatening gestures at Indians and the officials."
Unquote.

That was preposterous.

And today I was surfing videos of a Malaysian singer who was discovered by producers in the US. She has a very cool and soothing voice. She posted a video of her singing (to show her friend) and some producers saw it and she got signed up for records!!

So I was watching her videos in Youtube and reading the comments. And there it went, racial comments. Not about white people discriminating Asians. She was singing about Christmas. She is a Sarawakian, I can't really say if she's Christian or Muslim. But who cares?! But people, some people might have concentrated on the possibility that if she's a Muslim. If she's a Muslim she most definitely can't sing about Christmas! I wasn't really clear of the comments cos there were too many and I am too sick about all these racial issues. So I didn't read on.

Couple of weeks ago, I had lunch with one of my managers who is an Indonesian Chinese. He asked me why don't different races of Malaysians mix around? He said "You don't hate each other. But you don't really socialise with each other." My first reaction that he was wrong. But when I really gave it some thought, I agreed with him. He said, that was so sad, it's such a nice country. I was a bit taken aback to hear this from an Indonesian. Perhaps we all feel that Chinese, in Indonesia has always been "surpressed"(just my personal opinion). I, if not we all, have always thought the Chinese people in Malaysia are luckier than those in Indonesia. As I feel we have more freedom than the Chinese people in Indonesia. So to hear this from Indonesian Chinese.. was really kind of a shock. Do you understand what I am saying?

Back to the situation in Malaysia. How can we EVER have "1Malaysia"? Not all but I guess most Malays just got too worried and feel they are threatened by Chinese. According to the article's (in Strait Times) writer, one of her Malay friends in Malaysia "was adamant that non-Malays have no right to ask for more rights or privileges."

Some of the Malays (again, NOT all) just can't tolerate anything at all, especially in the recent 5 years. It's really sad to see. It pushed me further from my home country, mentally. I just hate all these racial issues. We are all the same... we are HUMANS.

Malaysia ministers' jobs, are not easy ones. Malays fear their privileges being stripped away, Chinese wants to be treated fairly, Indians wants more helps from government AND THEN Malays' fears increased, feel threatened. M'sia gov needs the votes from not just one race. So... it's really a tough job for them now... I don't even want to think about it.

Most of my Malay friends are very nice people. We got along great at work. Interactions outside of work, maybe not a lot but there were interactions. Like an answer of a Miss Universe's contestant : "I wish for world peace." I wish for peace in Malaysia. I wish for no-racial-bickerings in Malaysia. I feel sad to be "pushed" further and further away from my home land. . But I guess no-racial-bickerings is not something that is likely to materialise in near future.
