The other day on the bus, I overheard one chinese aunty spoke to another (in hokkien) before all of the passengers alighting at the interchange.
Aunty A : wa kia seng hor (I go first hor).
Aunty B : eh sai (Can).
I was a bit ...?? Aunty B answered "can" to Aunty A. Why?? Must get "permission" before Aunty A is allowed to go?? LOL... What a funny way of responding to Aunty A. If I were Aunty B, ehem, should be MISS B, I would just say, "OK."
Well, I suppose it doesn't really mean "can" lah... It's just an expression... but when I heard it I thought that was funny...
